Now, Beyond The Dream is the third album by Listening Center in the SX-70 CD-R series by Temporary Tapes. It represents the end of a phase of open ended exploration of modular and polysynth improvisations recorded around 2020.

Elements of arabesque and isorhythm have again been widely employed to create a cyclical and disembodied feeling. In "New Riddles", a modular sequence is tape looped over and over itself, creating a pulsing, protozoan echo.

No matter how much narrative or abstraction is projected onto the work after the fact, it always contains a diaristic element of some kind—it can often be a response to or processing of physical or mental events of the time. Again, the idea of "a dream of sound" (Southam).

Sometimes it seems appropriate to use another approach. The well-trodden paths that have served us well now seem to lead nowhere. Less familiar paths can still lead home.
